BIBLE STUDY & EDUCATION AT LCM

"Ecclesia semper reformata et reformanda" is a Latin phrase from Reformation times that continues to inspire our Lutheran zeal for learning. "The Church reformed and always reforming" means that we Christians are called to be life-long learners who need to continually grow and mature in our understanding of the Bible and our world that our faith might remain flexible, vibrant and relevant. These are some of the ways we seek to be a learning community.

WEEKLY SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY AT 9:45 AM

An informal, small group reading with discussion through a selected book of the Bible led by the Pastor. We often choose to read a biblical book that is the basis for our Sunday readings during the current season of the church year.

MONTHLY WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY

Held on the fourth Monday or Tuesday evening in the parsonage, this Bible study utilizes materials produced by ELCA Women in the Lutheran Woman Today magazine. The 2007/8 study focues on the Beatitudes of Jesus and is written by Professor Martha Stortz of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley.

MONTHLY MEN'S BIBLE STUDY

On the second Saturday of the month men from several congregations gather at 8 AM for Bible Study and conversation over breakfast at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, at 14th and Ocean Park in Santa Monica. The study is coordinated by local pastors including Pr. Rollefson who is a regular participant. Recent topics
have included Christian/Muslim dialogue and a biblical study of "love."

AFTERWORD

is an occasional forum held after worship during coffee hour. Recent presentations and discussions have included the art of hymn translation and sermon feedback sessions.

WHAT'S A LUTHERAN ANYWAY?

is a series of inquiry sessions intended for adults interested in learning more about the basics of Christian faith in its Lutheran expression. These classes, utilizing Dan Erlander's Baptized We Live booklet, are designed for folks interested in becoming members of the congregation through baptism, affirmation of faith, or
letter of transfer. Classes are scheduled at the convenience of those
interested in attending.

CONFIRMATION INSTRUCTION

is held on Saturday mornings for youth interested in making their affirmation of baptism following a two-year course of instruction in the Bible and Luther's Small Catechism.

SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN

is scheduled on an as-needed basis Sunday mornings preceding worship. Educational materials are also available for smaller children attending Sunday worship.
